Xani

Xani studied architecture at the University of Prishtina, but increasingly turned to art during his studies. Lessons in drawing and painting with Professor Hamdi Terzici awakened his passion for the visual arts and laid the foundation for his artistic career.
During the Kosovo war, Xani fled to Germany in 1999 and has lived in Dortmund ever since. There he made contact with the local art scene and became an active member of the Kunstförderverein Unna.
His work includes painting on canvas as well as large-scale wall and façade designs. Xani experiments with the reduction of forms, material structures and the multiple possibilities of colour. His motifs are often characterized by a symbolic visual language in which the abstracted human figure recurs as a central element.
When painting, Xani feels a deep sense of freedom. He often looks at his own works with the distance of an observer and recognizes that current social themes have unconsciously flowed into his works.
