The image of this boy deep in thought , sent back to me the idea of an intimate scene, of waiting. The expectation of an arrival. Perhaps the arrival of someone familiar, like an airplane pilot father. A father who arrives toward evening, at the time when the lights inside the houses are turned on. This was the thought with which I composed the painting. But the reading can have many more variations. To each his own story.
