Sophia Rodionov (b. 1981, Tallinn, Estonia) is an Israel-based visual artist working primarily in watercolour and mixed media. Originally trained in science, she studied chemistry at the Technion before shifting entirely to art and earning her BFA in Visual Arts from Haifa University in 2006.
Deeply influenced by East-Asian philosophy and the Japanese concept of pause, Rodionov’s work explores the subtle boundary between reality and abstraction. Her paintings reflect the relationship between the visible world and its invisible, emotional, and spiritual layers, using organic forms, flowing compositions, and intuitive processes.

Working across watercolour, acrylic, and dry media, she builds her images through a meditative, layered approach that mirrors inner states and shifting perceptions of space. Composition and space play a central role in her practice, as she examines how environment, time, emotion, and presence continuously reshape human experience.

Her work has been exhibited internationally in Europe, the United States, and Japan, and she is a recipient of awards including the Jackson’s Art Prize and the Abu Rawash Prize. Since 2019, Rodionov has served as a co-representative of the International Watercolour Society (IWS) Israel. Her practice invites viewers into a contemplative space where nature, time, and human presence unfold with quiet intensity.
